National Energy toasted the senior citizens of Guayaguayare at an annual Valentine’s Day Luncheon held on Friday, 13 February 2015. The Guayaguayare Community Centre was adorned with red and white flowers and balloons as the seniors were entertained and honoured in the spirit of the occasion.
Manger, Operating Assets, Ms. Michelle Scipio-Hosang gave welcome remarks reiterating the need for the elderly to be recognized and appreciated for their contribution to building the community of Guayaguayare and the nation as a whole. Ms. Sheila Mitchell, President of the Guayaguayare Village Council gave remarks on behalf of the community following which the celebrations then got underway.
Based on the feedback from last year’s event , more entertainment and interactive activities were added to the program in 2015 beginning with Ms. Antenille Hamilton, Mayaro Secondary School’s reigning calypso champion, performing a monologue entitled, “Proverbs” which reminded the audience about sayings from long ago. The attendees also sang along to the familiar “Santimanitay” melody while she delivered witty verses of extempo.
The golden agers were then taken on a trip down memory lane during the “Guess the Calypso” game which saw them competing for prizes. This was followed by National Energy’s Ms. Denise Cyrus who thrilled the audience with her monologue, “Valentine’s Day”. A member of the audience, Ms. Catherine Lemessy then performed two songs on ‘trumpet’ using only her hands to mimic the sound of the musical instrument National Energy brand ambassadors assisted in the distribution of lunch and tokens to all guests.
In closing, Ms. Alana Boodoo-Suraj, Community Relations Liaison, thanked everyone for attending the luncheon and wished them blessings and love for Valentine’s Day.
