In keeping with National Energy’s commitment to environmental preservation, the company participated in the annual International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) along with parent company, The National Gas Company (NGC). People assembled at Station Beach, La Brea from as early as 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, 19 September 2015 to conduct the annual data gathering and cleanup exercise. This year, we were joined by students of Sevilla Private Primary School and Presentation College, Chaguanas for the cleanup.
Participants were split into teams of four (4) or more and given instructions on the completion of data cards which would be used to record the types of waste collected. Teams then got to work cleaning up trash and recording information which would be sent to Ocean Conservancy’s global database.
To provide some added incentive this year, teams engaged in friendly competition to collect the most waste. Team H took the prize for the most bags collected with 18 bags, followed by Team N who collected 14 bags. Prizes were also awarded to the winners of ‘Small Goal’ football which was played at the end of the cleanup.
Overall, this was a very successful undertaking as we collected a total of 1,099.3 lbs of trash from the beach. We thank all the brand ambassadors who gave of their time and energy in this environmental conservation effort.
