|The 9th Annual La Brea Zone Primary School Games took place on Wednesday, 04 March 2015 at the Sobo Recreational Grounds. Students, teachers and parents came together to support the youngsters at the athletic competition which has been hosted jointly by National Energy and La Brea Industrial Development Company (LABIDCO) since 2006. This year, live music for the March Past was provided by the Vessigny Secondary School Band which added to the excitement.
The competition officially kicked off on Friday, 27 February 2015 with the March Past competition. Following the impressive display of colour and marching precision by four (4) of the five (5) participating schools, Guapo Government Primary School claimed this year’s March Past prize. Unfortunately, shortly after the March Past, a heavy downpour occurred resulting in the postponement of the track and field component of the games to ensure the safety of participants. The competition resumed on Wednesday, 04 March 2015.
Much to their credit, the young athletes came back as scheduled with the same enthusiasm and energy to compete in the track and field games. After a day of hotly contested activities, Vance River RC emerged the overall athletics champions.
The winners of the La Brea Zone Primary School games went on represent their schools at the Victoria District Games with a chance to participate in the national athletics competition. National Energy and LABIDCO were pleased to support the advancement of sport in La Brea and environs and congratulated the winners who gave a solid performance at the district tournament.
