The Port of Galeota is continuing on its way to becoming a hub for logistical and offshore support services with the construction of a 27,000 ft2 warehouse. Construction works began in October 2016 and stood at 40% completion at 31st January 2017.
The building was designed as a ‘pre-fabricated’ structure in which various components were manufactured off site and then installed on site. Currently, the foundation of the warehouse is completed and structural members (beams, columns, braces and purlins) are being erected. Following the tightening of bolts and grouting of base plates, sheeting will be affixed to form the warehouse walls.
The warehouse will feature a 5-ton capacity overhead crane to facilitate loading and offloading of equipment and material from trucks, which would be able to drive through the building. The facility will offer a ‘cold room’ for storage of temperature sensitive materials and bonded warehousing to port users.
Discussions are ongoing with potential clients for use of the warehouse facility, which is scheduled to be completed in May 2017.
