Dr. Vernon Paltoo – President, National Energy
Appointed President of National Energy in 2013, Dr. Vernon Paltoo has worked on the conceptualisation, design, development and promotion of industrial and energy-related projects in Trinidad and Tobago at state agencies and academic institutions over the past 25 years. Prior to being appointed as President of National Energy, Dr. Paltoo served in several senior capacities including Vice President, Operations; Manager, Energy Industry Development; and Team Leader, Business Development. In this regard, he was instrumental in advancing key national projects including the methanol-to-power project, the ammonia/urea/melamine (AUM) project, the methanol to di-methyl ether project and the state-of-the-art Galeota Port project. More recently, his portfolio has expanded to include decarbonizing the energy industry, and the transition to sustainable energy development.
Dr. Paltoo currently serves as a director on the Boards of the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago, La Brea Industrial Development Company Limited, NGC CNG Limited, National Energy Guyana Incorporated, and the National Energy Skills Center. He has also previously served on the boards of the Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited and InvesTT Limited. During his career, Dr. Paltoo has also contributed to the development of industrial sectors, having been a member of the Government Committees on Gas to Petrochemicals; Agriculture and Food Production; and Plastics, Printing and Packaging.
He has lectured on the energy industry on a part-time basis at The University of the West Indies and the University of Trinidad and Tobago. His areas of expertise include industrial development, engineering design, energy economics and project economics and he has authored and/or co-authored several academic papers, and regularly presents at conferences and seminars on behalf of the NGC Group of Companies. Dr. Paltoo holds a B.Sc. in Chemical and Process Engineering and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, both from The University of the West Indies.
Sheldon Sylvester – Vice President, Corporate Services and Business Development
Mr. Sheldon Sylvester has over twenty-five (25) years’ experience in Finance and Accounting in both the manufacturing and energy sectors. He has worked at Phoenix Park Gas Processors for 12 years with responsibility for budgeting, forecasting, debt, and treasury management. Mr. Sylvester is currently the Vice President, Corporate Services and Business Development at National Energy with responsibility for the Finance, Non-renewable Business Development and other support functions. He is the holder of a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Heriot-Watt University and holds professional memberships with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Trinidad and Tobago.
Curtis Mohammed, Vice President, Sustainable Energy Development
Curtis Mohammed is the President of the NGC CNG Company Limited and Vice President, Sustainable Energy Development at National Energy. Previously, he worked as Vice President, Gas Transmission and Distribution at The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) and was subsequently requested by NGC to head and execute the national CNG initiative.
Mr. Mohammed gained his B. Sc. Degree in Chemical Engineering at UWI in 1988 and his M. Sc. in Engineering Management in 1999.
Mr. Mohammed’s broad range of professional experience and skills in the Oil, Gas and Manufacturing Sectors include process and project engineering, the setting up of manufacturing entities in the Spirits and Renewable Fuels Industries, and the rolling out of complete operations, including management of all phases of major capital projects. He has previously worked at PETROTRIN and the Angostura Group.
Mr. Mohammed is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Trinidad & Tobago.
Wendy Seow, Vice President, Port and Estate Management
Ms. Wendy Seow is a business executive with over 30 years of experience in the public and private sectors. She currently holds the position of General Manager of the La Brea Industrial Development Company Limited (LABIDCO) and Vice President of the Port and Estate Management division at National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (National Energy) - both subsidiaries of The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC).
Ms. Seow is responsible for leading National Energy’s major revenue-earning activities and overseeing the management and operations of both companies’ main commercial assets. These assets include: three industrial ports, two industrial estates, six multi-product marine terminals and a fleet of ten marine vessels including tugs, workboats and a fast crew supply vessel.
In addition to her agility, Ms. Seow has developed a reputation for being a strong negotiator with demonstrable experience in improving critical processes. As a bold innovator, she continues to create and add value to the key revenue-earning areas in both National Energy and LABIDCO.
She holds an MBA from the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business and received her undergraduate degree in Economics from the York University in Toronto, Canada. She also completed the Certificate of Practice in Corporate Citizenship from Boston College Centre for Corporate Citizenship and is certified as a Certified Port Executive by the Macdonnell Group, Tampa, USA. Ms. Seow is also a former member of the Board of Directors of the University of the West Indies Faculty of Social Sciences.
